Lumaya
Plant-based showering
LUMAYA is a combination of words from the Mayan culture and your language, in which the word "LUM" stands for "earth". The name represents our Guatemalan roots and our 100% plant-based products.
Produce more sustainably
How it all started
We are a small team (Crista & Björn) with roots in Guatemala and Germany. Together we create new soap products with natural fragrances and herbal ingredients and manufacture them by hand in Germany. We want to make our contribution to a plastic-free and more sustainable environment.
With a degree in chemical and environmental engineering, Crista has been involved in the manufacture of natural products for many years. Our soap production was initially a hobby project, which we professionalized bit by bit. We now produce in our own laboratory using certified recipes. At the same time, we cooperate with many other start-ups that manufacture handmade products.

Packaging waste & microplastics
The challenge
We have a huge problem with plastics of all kinds around the world and the use of cosmetic products makes a decisive contribution to this. Cosmetic and personal care products enriched with microplastics end up in our oceans and ecosystems via our wastewater. In addition, billions of packaging are added each year, the majority of which cannot be recycled.
In addition, more and more studies are linking chemicals in conventional cosmetics, skin care and other personal care products to health problems such as allergies, hormonal disorders, and reproductive problems.
Due to our scientific and industrial background in chemical industry and environmental technology, we know the many problems of conventional cosmetic products and the plastics they contain.
Handcraft instead of factory bottling
How do we manufacture?
Our products are made by hand from specially combined natural raw materials in order to keep the impact on our environment as low as possible. Let's choose our daily products together more consciously and sustainably. We do not use parabens, silicones and petroleum derivatives that can be found in many industrially manufactured cosmetic articles.
